Hydrogen in Los Angeles

Los Angeles County is the clearest picture of the network's reliability problem: it has about as many stations listed as unavailable as it has open. The open stations cluster in the San Fernando Valley and the San Gabriel Valley (Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Burbank, Mission Hills, Pasadena, Baldwin Park) plus Torrance in the South Bay.

What is missing is the Westside, Hollywood and the airport. Hollywood, Playa Del Rey, LAX, Long Beach, South Pasadena and La Canada Flintridge are all listed as temporarily unavailable, and the LAX station has not been re-verified in more than a year. If you live west of the 405 or south of the 10, your nearest working station is likely Torrance or the Valley.

Practical notes

  • Torrance is one of the few stations here not run by True Zero, which helps when a supply problem hits one operator.
  • The Shell sites in Long Beach and Wilmington and the truck center in Santa Fe Springs are heavy-duty facilities for port trucks, not car stations.
  • Orange County's stations are close for anyone in southeast L.A. County. See Orange County.
