Hydrogen in Canada

British Columbia is the only place in North America outside California with a functioning retail hydrogen network. HTEC operates the stations in Metro Vancouver (Burnaby, North Vancouver, Vancouver), Victoria and Kelowna, and in June 2026 opened a heavy-duty station on Tsawwassen First Nation land in Delta for trucks. Toyota and Hyundai sell fuel-cell cars in B.C. because of it.

Elsewhere there is very little. Quebec City has one public station, opened in 2018. The Toronto area has two sites in Mississauga, one of them a truck-scale station opened in late 2024 and one that is not retail.

Practical notes

  • Canadian stations dispense at 700 bar (H70), the standard for passenger cars. Only the Mississauga truck site also offers 350 bar.
  • There is no public hydrogen between B.C. and Ontario, and no cross-border route: the nearest U.S. public station to Vancouver is in the Bay Area.
